Being part of a street gang in New York City automatically puts you in a position where you could be at odds with the law. It may be that you are asked to do tasks that you don’t think you should but feel that you have no other choice. You could get caught up in activities that you never thought you’d be a part of.
Being part of a gang can lead to harsh penalties, especially if you’re arrested for committing crimes in the city. Take, for example, a recent case in which seven people from the Trinitarios street gang were arrested on racketeering and murder charges. The people who were arrested are allegedly part of a subset of the gang known as the “Sunset” group.
A DEA special agent spoke to the news and stated that they had completed an investigation indicating that many violent crimes and murders were linked to these individuals. The gang itself received national coverage when it was accused of murdering an innocent teen who they mistook for another person. So far, five people have been given life sentences over the teen’s murder.
Gangs are notorious for getting into trouble and being on the wrong side of the law. If you are caught up in a gang or have struggled to break free, it’s not too late. If you’re accused of murder or other violent crimes, you can work with your attorney to negotiate a plea deal and other arrangements so that you can focus on getting your life back and getting freedom from surroundings of violence.
