Murders on the rise in New York City in 2019

| Dec 5, 2019 | Murder And Violent Crimes |

There is little that you can say to make anyone understand why you might murder another person. Sometimes, it’s out of self-defense. Other times, there are other factors at play. Whatever the case may be, if you’re accused of murder, it’s in your best interests to defend yourself as you work with your attorney.

What’s interesting about New York is that there has been an uptick in the number of murders in New York City this year. The police have reported 299 homicides between January and November 2019, which is already higher than the previous 275 homicides in 2018.

In 2019, there count includes 27 reclassified murders. These are deaths that had previously been classified in other ways that are now seen as homicides. Even with this, the number of murders jumped by a shocking 25% when comparing month-to-month analyses.

Around a quarter of the murders were a result of gang violence in 2019. Another 20% were linked to domestic violence. The remainder were of other causes not specifically listed by the police’s report.

As someone who may have been accused of murder or other kinds of violent crimes, it’s important that you know that you have a right to defend yourself and your actions. It can be hard to live in today’s world, and if you had to defend and protect yourself, an unintended death might have been the result. Your attorney can work with you to help you build up your case, so you can properly defend your rights and make sure your case is treated fairly.
