Police investigate $353,000 jewelry theft at Trump Tower

Theft is a major issue across the United States and specifically in New York. The vast majority of these crimes are petty in nature. That said, there are plenty of examples of large-scale thefts that occur as well. In fact, two separate incidents at the Trump Tower in Manhattan resulted in the theft of a combined total of $350,000 of jewelry.

Nassau County man faces weapons charges over registration

New York is one of the most populous and diverse states in the country, which brings a lot of different preferences and viewpoints to its cities and towns. One issue which is often at the top of people's minds is the right to bear firearms, as well as protections from the dangers that pistols, rifles and shotguns can pose.

Protect yourself if you're accused of first-degree murder

A murder is a crime in which an individual unlawfully and unjustifiably kills another person. However, as you know, even though someone has killed someone, the circumstances are often largely able to be explained. No case is completely black and white, and those accused of murdering others deserve a chance to fight for their freedoms and to explain their actions.

Racial profiling can lead to innocent people getting arrested

Law enforcement officers in New York have a reputation for problematic racial bias in the way that they approach criminal cases. Analysis of arrests made in the first decade of the twenty-first century found that over 5% of all criminal arrests in New York City occurred without adequate grounds for police interaction. Overall, the vast majority of people charged with crimes in New York are people of color.

NYPD: felony and misdemeanor arrests down since Pantaleo firing

According to the local CBS affiliate, “arrest totals in New York City have plunged in the two weeks since the NYPD fired the officer accused of using an illegal chokehold on Eric Garner.” Speculation across the city is that police officers are angry over the firing of Daniel Pantaleo five years after Garner’s death and that they are carrying out a slowdown.
