STREET CRIME DEFENSE WITH NO JUDGMENT

2 New York residents face drug crime charges

| Dec 18, 2018 | Drug Charges |

Two people were arrested following a “no-knock” search warrant in Chenango County the morning of Dec. 17, according to police reports. The New York State Police coordinated with Norwich City Police to stage the sting, which was predicated by a long and involved investigation into local drug crime. Both individuals have been arraigned and are being held by authorities pending a trial.

According to the police report, the investigation originated from a desire by local authorities to stem the tide of methamphetamine distribution in the area. Police entered the residence and took two people into custody, a 34-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman. The man apparently attempted to flee officers by jumping through a window pane. He was caught and treated by EMS personnel on the scene before being transported to a local hospital. Both he and the woman with him have since been remanded to a county jail.

Police say they found nearly 2 kilograms of what they believe to be methamphetamine, as well as 3 ounces of alleged cocaine and another 4 ounces of other suspected drugs, including MDMA, LSD and the powerful painkiller suboxone. Both arrested parties now face several drug crime charges, including felony possession of a controlled substance, use of drug paraphernalia and criminal possession of a weapon. Their bails have been set at $100,000 for the man and $50,000 for the woman.

Drug crime charges of this severity often result in jail time if the individuals charged are actually found guilty. Both parties will be represented in a New York criminal court by separate defense counsel, who will work to build a strong defense against the myriad charges. Both attorneys will also maintain due diligence to ensure a fair and balanced trial for their clients.
