2 arrested for alleged drug crime in New York

Two people are in custody following the execution of a search warrant on Long Island the afternoon of Nov. 30. New York law enforcement from across several teams and units raided a home in East Patchogue. A 30-year-old man and a 27-year-old man are now facing drug crime charges for their involvement in the alleged activities taking place at the residence.

According to the report filed by Suffolk police, an investigation of indeterminate duration led authorities to believe drug activity was taking place in the East Patchogue residence. As a result, elements of the Emergency Service Section, Special Operations from the Seventh and Fifth Precincts, as well as gang and crime units, descended upon the residence around 4:27 p.m. Officers on site said they discovered what they believe to be marijuana, cocaine and heroin, as well as drug paraphernalia, phones, a car and almost $2,000 in cash.

Two men were arrested on the scene and charged with multiple crimes. Among the charges are first-, second- and third-degree possession of a controlled substance, as well as a minor fourth-degree charge for possession of specifically marijuana. Both men were held by police and were set to be arraigned the following day.

These allegations are varied and serious, according to New York law. If the men are found guilty, they could face fines and even jail time. However, the burden of proof lies on prosecutors to provide conclusive evidence that both men were engaged in a drug crime. Each man will be represented at their arraignment by their own criminal defense attorney, each of whom will work to build defenses for their clients by reviewing the prosecution's evidence, as well as police reports and other information ancillary to the case.
