Woman in New York charged with alleged drug crime

| Nov 13, 2018 | Drug Charges |

A woman who has experienced legal trouble in the past is now facing new charges, according to local police. Officers in Plattsburgh, New York, arrested the 24-year-old woman on Nov. 6 on suspicion of drug crime offenses. The woman had previously served a year in a correctional facility on a similar charge from May 2017 to May 2018. She is currently in custody awaiting a trial date.

According to the police report, the woman was arrested by Plattsburgh City Police after a warrant was issued by a city court justice. Apparently local authorities had been looking into the woman for some time, as she was the subject of a considerable investigation. The details of her arrest were not included in this report, nor were details concerning why police found her suspect to begin with.

She has been charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, though the nature of that substance has not been included in this report. She was taken to a local prison for allegedly violating her parole terms and was arraigned on Nov. 7. She was returned to jail on $5,000 bail or $10,000 bond, and remains there currently. She is due back in court the morning of Dec. 10.

Drug crime charges can deeply influence the course of an accused person’s life, especially if they are deemed a repeat offender as this woman appears to have been. It will be up to a New York prosecutor to prove her alleged offense, and in the meantime, her criminal defense team will work hard to build a compelling case in her defense. This will involve her team reviewing the warrant, the arrest report and the details of her arrest, to ensure her rights were observed throughout that process, and to continue to ensure a fair and balanced trial throughout the court proceedings.
