STREET CRIME DEFENSE WITH NO JUDGMENT

5 face drug crime charges in New York

| Sep 27, 2018 | Drug Charges |

Five people have been arrested in connection with a drug raid in Poughkeepsie, according to law enforcement. New York police have confirmed that all five are facing drug crime charges after a raid was conducted in Dutchess County. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration was involved in the investigation as well as local and state authorities. There is no word as to a court date for any of the accused at this time.

According to police reports, two search warrants were executed on a low-rise apartment building in the city of Poughkeepsie after a lengthy investigation into an alleged drug ring in the area. The searches were conducted on Sept. 14 and allegedly turned up a wealth of illegal material, including hand guns, some 2,800 bags of what is believed to be fentanyl and heroin, and almost $12,000 in cash. The hand guns were registered as stolen, and police also say they found materials associated with the packaging and distribution of drugs on-site.

Two of the five arrested are 17-year-olds who may or may not be tried as adults. All face charges ranging from possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute to criminal possession of a firearm. If they are found guilty, the individuals could face substantial jail time.

However, the burden of proof rests with New York prosecutors to prove conclusively and beyond reasonable doubt that the accused were complicit in the alleged drug crime for which they have been charged. Each individual will be represented in court by individual defense counsel who will work tirelessly to contest the formal accusations. The defense will be entitled to review any evidence prosecutors intend to offer in court.
