STREET CRIME DEFENSE WITH NO JUDGMENT

New York man found guilty of fatal robbery years after the fact

| Jun 30, 2018 | Theft & Property Crimes |

A now 36-year-old man has been sentenced to 25 years incarceration for a home invasion in 2007 when he was just 24 years old. The New York robbery resulted in the killing of a 39-year-old Harlem man. Apparently, the now-convicted man — who was a known drug dealer at the time and linked to a Queen’s drug ring — believed the man had a stash in his apartment. He was not acting alone at the time.

The unarmed victim struggled with the accused and was shot once in the back and once in the armpit. He died in Harlem Hospital. He was a father of two, a restaurant owner and the manager of a reggae band.

In 2013, the defendant was arrested on charges of identity theft and dealing in marijuana. During that time, he allegedly told authorities he played a part in the earlier home invasion and fatal shooting, to which he pleaded guilty in court, telling the judge he never meant to kill the man. But the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York said the accused learned that the law does not rest and does not forget.

Those who find themselves having to defend serious criminal charges like robbery have the right to discuss their options for fighting the charges with an experienced defense attorney. An attorney familiar with the applicable laws at the state and federal levels can explain how they pertain to a client’s individual case. Those accused may have a better chance at achieving a better outcome with the guidance and prudent advice of a New York lawyer.
