A 29-year-old Bronx man has been charged with drug and gun crimes after allegedly selling guns to an undercover police officer. One of those guns was said to be a semi-automatic rifle. The sale of illegal weapons in New York carries with it severe consequences if those accused are found guilty. The accused in this instance is facing 146 counts regarding various crimes. Cops were involved in an investigation for months trying to halt the sale of illegal weapons on New York streets.
The man is accused of selling 18 guns to an undercover cop over a seven-month period. However, he was arrested after allegedly being found in possession of cocaine. Among the charges the accused faces are criminal sale of a firearm, possession of a firearm, resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance. If found guilty of the most serious offense, he could be facing a 25-year prison term.
The Bronx County District Attorney's Office said it would vigorously prosecute those who promote danger in the community. That includes those involved in the sale of illegal weapons. The man was arrested in January of this year.
New York residents who have been arrested on criminal charges like the sale of illegal weapons could have their lives turned upside down. Getting the advice of an attorney may have a great impact on how a case will turn out. When a client's reputation is on the line, an attorney may be able to mount a vigorous defense to try to have the charges reduced or dropped, or to reduce any sentence in the event of a guilty verdict.
