Among the items seized by the New York Police Department in a recent drug bust was a Lamborghini. The luxury car was accompanied by the additional seizure of $600,000 that cops say are the fruits of drug crime. The investigation into two deaths caused by overdoses of the illicit drug, fentanyl, culminated in the arrests of four New York City men. Authorities also say they confiscated about 20 pounds of drugs.
The quartet is accused of supplying significant amounts of fentanyl, cocaine and heroin drug dealers both in the city and upstate. The 35-year-old suspected leader of the group was taken into custody at his luxury apartment in Queens where cops also allegedly found a loaded firearm. Police used a wiretap during their investigations after two men, aged 22 and 42, died in Queens in 2016 and 2017, respectively, from lethal mixes of heroin and fentanyl. Cops also raided a suspected stash house where they say they found drugs hidden in a sofa.
Police say that fentanyl is a synthetic drug stemming from the opioid family and is apparently 50 times stronger than heroin. All four men pleaded not guilty to multiple counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance and conspiracy. They are all being held in custody.
Anyone charged with a drug crime in New York typically secures legal counsel at the first opportunity. Those finding themselves battling such a serious offense will likely benefit from the experience a criminal attorney may provide. A lawyer will focus on protecting a client's rights at every stage of the criminal proceedings, while preparing and presenting an aggressive defense designed to achieve an optimal result.
