Breaking in is hard to do. That may be the reason why the man who allegedly entered Taylor Swift's Manhattan apartment supposedly took a shower before falling asleep. The New York Police Department responded to the call just after noon on April 20. They arrested a 22-year-old male while conducting the burglary investigation.
The suspect was charged with criminal mischief in the third degree, criminal trespassing in the third degree and burglary in the first degree. After the accused is said to have gained entry into the apartment, police claim he decided to have a shower and then fell asleep in one of the beds. Swift was not in Manhattan at the time of the incident.
The apartment has been undergoing renovations. Another man who had been stalking Taylor was recently sentenced to 10 years probation. Taylor will shortly be embarking on a world tour.
New York residents charged with burglary may benefit from the help of an attorney to create a strong defense strategy. When someone's freedom is on the line, it makes sense to work with an experienced legal team. Doing so may mean the difference in not only a verdict, but in sentencing in the case of being found guilty. There are several criminal defenses applicable to burglary cases such as intoxication, consent or coercion, and a lawyer can advise if they are prudent defenses for a particular case. A conviction can only occur after government prosecutors have proved every element of the crime charged, in court and beyond a reasonable doubt, a legal standard that is often difficult to meet.
