A dozen members of a faction of the well-known Bloods gang were arrested in connection with a recent drug bust. The 12 are apparently members of the Mac Baller Brims and are facing drug charges for allegedly peddling heroin and crack cocaine in the Bronx, a Brooklyn housing project and a northeastern state. Police say a 32-year-old high-ranking member led the drug crime operation in East New York’s Pink Houses, buying from a 45-year-old man who dealt drugs in the Bronx.
Federal investigators apparently used a wiretap to intercept conversations between the high-ranking member and the 31-year-old head of the whole operation. Authorities said the men used code to discuss their next steps. For instance, they referred to their firearms as hammers. The youngest member arrested is 25 years old. Most are in their 30s and 40s, while the eldest is 50.
Nine of the accused could face life behind bars if convicted of the federal charges, according to the prosecutor. Drug offenses are no laughing matter and those accused should never take them lightly. They can be life-altering in the harshest of ways.
Getting sage legal advice may be prudent for anyone accused of a drug crime in New York, whether at the state or federal level. An attorney who will mount an aggressive fight on behalf of his or her client may make the difference. A lawyer may be able to ascertain defenses that don’t seem apparent from the get-go and may be able to reveal holes in the prosecutor’s case. A lawyer’s insight might prove to be invaluable to clients fighting criminal charges.
