One of New York's finest -- a police officer -- was recently arrested and is facing drug-related charges. The female officer was apparently under surveillance for some time. She was taken into custody and charged with trafficking heroin. Authorities say the New York Police Department officer's car was found with $50,000 in it after she returned from a trip to Massachusetts.
The woman was apparently working with a man to sell 100 grams or more of heroin. A Drug Enforcement Agency agent confronted the officer by shining a flashlight in her car where the cash was found along with the woman's NYPD weapon. Two separate bags were found in the vehicle, each allegedly containing $25,000 in cash.
Both the officer and the male with whom she was allegedly working were arrested after which point authorities supposedly found 250 grams of heroin in the officer's apartment, according to court documents. The cop was released on a $75,000 bond. She will likely rely upon experienced legal counsel to fight the charge.
Beating a drug trafficking charge may take the help of a savvy New York criminal attorney. These types of charges can be life-altering if those accused are found guilty, so having a strong legal defense team is crucial. A defense team will review all evidence, assessing whether the accused was properly taken into custody and that any warrants were executed to the letter of the law. An attorney may not be able to get the charges dropped, but he or she may be able to have any imposed sentence lessened.
