Man in New York faces drug crime charges

| Mar 9, 2018 | Drug Charges |

A man in Albany was arraigned in federal court on March 1 for alleged crimes, according to local sources. The 38-year-old New York man faces drug crime charges as well as firearms offenses. It is not clear whether he is still in police custody at this time, but it has been confirmed that the case is being investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

According to the police report, the man is accused of conspiring to distribute crack cocaine in 2017 from June to August. He faces charges of possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Police have not made the specifics of this case, or of the man’s arrest, public at this time.

If the man is found guilty of these charges, he could face up to 20 years in prison, not to mention a fine of $1 million. He could also face a further five years in jail if he is found guilty of possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. Beyond this, he could be subject to supervised release for at least three years beyond his sentence, and possibly for the rest of his life.

These are the dire consequences associated with federal drug crime charges. However, the New York man is also entitled to the presumption of innocence until and unless proved guilty in a court of law. In the meantime, his criminal defense team will work tirelessly to build a strong case against the charges filed against him in an effort to protect his considerable legal rights and secure his freedom.
