An Xbox and a TV may have been the motives behind the murders of four people recently. Two men, both from Schenectady, ages 24 and 38, have been taken into custody and charged with murder, burglary, possession of stolen property and robbery in connection with the brutal killings of a family of four in the area of Troy, New York. Apparently, one of the accused was friends with one of the victims, according to a family member of one of the deceased.
Dead are a 36-year-old woman along with two of her children -- a male, age 11, and a female, age five -- as well as the woman's 22-year-old girlfriend. Police suspect the murders happened five days before the bodies were found. All four were tied up and had their throats slit. Police said they allegedly found two knives close to the deceased. The 36-year-old victim's 15-year-old son was away on a trip at the time of the murders.
Both men pleaded not guilty to all charges. They are in jail without the possibility of bail. Both have spent time in prison on other charges. The 24-year-old was imprisoned for armed robbery and the 38-year-old for manslaughter for which he spent nine years behind bars before getting out on parole.
These kinds of serious criminal charges need the counsel of an experienced New York defense attorney. Not only would an attorney mount an aggressive defense against all the charges, including robbery, but he or she would go over all the evidence to make sure it was collected and catalogued in the proper legal manner. In terms of not being given the opportunity to post bail, a lawyer would investigate the reasons why and act on his or her client's behalf accordingly.
