Drug crime: 11 face charges in alleged New York drug ring

| Jan 22, 2018 | Drug Charges |

Nine men and two women are facing a number of charges in relation to the trafficking of heroin and fentanyl. The alleged New York drug crime took place on the streets of Manhattan, Staten Island and Brooklyn as well as a neighboring state, according to police. The feds said that the group apparently even tried to tempt people who were in drug rehab. Police are still looking for one of the suspects as the other 10 are in custody.

Police say each of the crew members apparently had their own parts to play in the drug ring. Some worked in stash houses, others made sure drugs were available for distribution and one of the women purportedly lured customers. Two of the accused are husband and wife.

One of the men was found unconscious in his home in October after having overdosed on the drug he was allegedly peddling.  He was brought around by medicine that was administered. Those accused were indicted in federal court of conspiring to distribute fentanyl and heroin. Arrests came after an intensive investigation by the NYPD, Homeland Security, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the New York State Police.

Those accused in this drug crime case are likely working with legal counsel to prepare the best possible defenses. New York police have to keep to certain legal standards when making arrests and when executing search warrants. An attorney will assess whether those legalities were upheld when law enforcement authorities conducted their investigation. An attorney may be able to lessen the sentence brought down against his or her client or may even be able to get the charges dropped altogether. The best possible outcome is always thefocus of an aggressive defense.
