SERVING NEW YORK WITH INTEGRITY & COMMITMENT

Woman faces grand larceny charge after shopping spree

Many companies in New York and elsewhere around the country issue corporate or business credit cards for their employees' use. They are convenient to use for office supplies, meals or other expenses the business may incur. However, a corporate card should not generally be used for personal expenses. An office manager has recently been arrested for grand larceny after charging several items.

A 38-year-old woman, an office manager at a doctor's office, handled the payroll and billing. With access to the corporate credit cards, she allegedly used them at several high-end stores. She also booked numerous flights on different airlines and stayed at a Marriott.

Reportedly, the woman spent over $104,000 and supposedly charged it to her place of business. She was charged with grand larceny. She was released under supervision after prosecutors requested $25,000 bail.

Other incidents of theft reported include a man who purportedly bought a $6,000 Chanel purse with a stolen credit card. Also, a wallet was thought to be stolen from a woman's baby stroller.  An employee was arrested for burglaries of several items of jewelry. Another incident of theft allegedly involved Ralph Lauren merchandise while another found a worker's tools missing. Investigations are still underway by the police.

There are serious consequences for someone if they are convicted of grand larceny in New York. Penalties could range from fines to significant time in jail, depending on the severity of the charges. Everyone has the right to present a defense, so contacting an experienced criminal defense attorney would be beneficial. A knowledgeable lawyer will work toward achieving the best results possible in the defense and help to minimize the negative impact of the charges.
