STREET CRIME DEFENSE WITH NO JUDGMENT

Facing criminal charges? Here’s why you need a lawyer

| Jan 6, 2017 | Drug Charges |

There is no doubt that millennials are doing things differently than their predecessors. Some of these changes are superficial, like opting to watch content online rather than paying for cable television. Others, however, are more impactful, such as the focus on cooperative work and the belief in their abilities to effect social change.

Recently, a website catering to millennials featured an article about a question many young adults are now facing: when does it make sense to hire a lawyer? Although many millennials embrace the do-it-yourself ethic, there are definitely times when you should be working with an attorney. This includes when you are facing criminal charges.

The article notes that of all crimes one could be charged with, most young adults are likely to face criminal charges related to drug possession or drunk driving. Regardless of whether the charges are major or seem relatively minor, you should have an attorney advocating for your best interests.

In some cases, a public defender may be available to you. However, if you can afford a private defense attorney, you will probably be asked to hire your own, which is ultimately a smart move. Public defenders are dedicated to their clients, but they also tend to be overworked and underpaid. It is difficult to mount an effective criminal defense without adequate time and resources.

Even if you are considering a plea bargain or wish to seek a prosecution alternative (such as pretrial diversion), you should still consult with an attorney. You don’t want to make such an important decision without hearing all the facts and all of your options from someone who has your best interests in mind.

Many criminal defense law firms, including ours, offer free initial consultations. To learn more about how we can help you, please visit our website.
