STREET CRIME DEFENSE WITH NO JUDGMENT

Pregnant Queens mother of 4 fatally shot, baby dies, too

| Nov 28, 2014 | Weapons Crimes |

There was no festive Thanksgiving celebration for one Queens family this year. The day before Thanksgiving, a 27-year-old pregnant mother of four was shot down in the hallway outside of her 15th floor LeFrak City apartment just minutes after escorting three of her children to their P.S. 206 school across the Long Island Expressway.

The woman was shot in the right elbow and right upper chest area and died minutes after arriving at Elmhurst Hospital. Physicians were able to deliver her tiny newborn girl, but the baby also expired hours after her premature delivery.

A distraught friend of the victim said that the young mother planned to name her infant Tru Melody if she were a girl.

Police have made no arrests in the case, but are looking for an uncle of the victim with whom she had prior disputes. Neighbors reported she had filed a complaint against her uncle and had sought a restraining order against him in the past.

It is possible that the deceased woman was killed to permanently silence her about any knowledge that she might have had about alleged criminal activities involving her uncle. The man has a prior arrest and conviction record and served two prison terms for narcotics violations and possession of weapons.

According to police sources, the unnamed uncle’s rap sheet includes arrests for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, marijuana possession and impersonating a public servant.

The victim’s husband awoke to the sounds of gunfire and the sight of his wife, collapsed in the hallway, bleeding and unconscious.

A spokesman for the Queens District Attorney said that whoever killed her is liable to face double homicide charges since the baby was delivered alive.

“If the person is born alive, it is considered a baby and a homicide charge is possible,” said the spokesman.

Obviously, a double homicide arrest is about as serious as it gets. Individuals facing similar charges would do well to retain qualified criminal defense attorneys to represent them against charges that could land them behind bars for the rest of their lives.
