SERVING NEW YORK WITH INTEGRITY & COMMITMENT

Sex offense conviction ends reality show

There will be one less reality show to watch in the fall line-up for New Yorkers. TLC has ceased production on "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo," the show set in a small Georgia town about a colorful cast of southern rednecks.

The show has been canceled because the mother, "Mama" June Shannon's oldest daughter, Anna, has revealed that her mother is intimately involved with the man convicted of sexually molesting her when she was only 8. Anna, who also appeared on the show, is now 20.

The ex-con recently finished a 10-year stint for aggravated child molestation for which he was convicted in 2004. At the time he molested the girl, he was dating her mother.

The oldest daughter spoke out to "Entertainment Tonight," telling them she felt betrayed by her mother and that her mom had "never told me she believes me."

While the mother denies the relationship is ongoing, pictures have surfaced online that show the two together.

After a successful run of four seasons, the network ended all further involvement with the Georgia family, saying that their priority is only to support "the health and welfare of these remarkable . . . children's ongoing comfort and well-being."

While most of us will never appear on a reality TV show, these recent developments illustrate the many ways a conviction of a sex offense against children can follow an offender and dog his steps even after he has served out his sentence. Relationships with family members and friends may be affected, and in some cases, an offender may be barred from spending time with his own children.

If you are facing serious allegations of child molestation, a New York criminal defense attorney may be able to prevent a conviction from ruining your future.
