STREET CRIME DEFENSE WITH NO JUDGMENT

Important drug crime statistics

| Sep 23, 2014 | Drug Charges |

There is no denying the fact that drug crime has become a major problem in many parts of the United States, including New York City and surrounding areas. While police are always on the lookout for people who are breaking the law in this capacity, they can go overboard in terms of whom they target and when and how this takes place.

As noted by the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc., citing the Uniform Crime Reporting Program of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, there were approximately 1.7 million local and state arrests related to drug abuse in 2009.

Some of the most important drug crime statistics are as follows:

— 80 percent of those who are in prison are offenders of alcohol or drug abuse.

— Roughly 60 percent of people arrested for most crimes test positive for some type of illegal drug at the time of their arrest.

— As many as 80 percent of offenders will drop out of a treatment program before graduating.

To go along with the statistics above, there is something you need to know about drug courts: Studies have shown that drug courts save taxpayers a lot of money by cutting back on costs associated with prison and trials.

Being accused of a drug crime is a big deal, however, it is not uncommon as there are millions of Americans who have found themselves in the same position. With so many laws and underlying reasons to target people for drug use, consulting with a criminal attorney is often necessary following an arrest.
