SERVING NEW YORK WITH INTEGRITY & COMMITMENT

New York Police Department breaks up gun trafficking ring

Despite the fact that gun crime has been a big problem in New York City for many years, it is not because of a lack of effort on behalf of law enforcement professionals.

Recently, undercover detectives for the New York Police Department made the largest illegal gun purchase in the history of the Big Apple. By breaking up a gun trafficking ring between Georgia and New York, authorities were able to keep a large number of firearms out of the city. Nicknamed "Operation Lucky 7" by those involved, police eventually brought down a couple from Georgia along with four others.

At a recent news conference, the NYPD commissioner said that investigators learned of the ring from community members in Canarsie. In one transaction, authorities purchased 25 guns from the suspects, which was the largest in the history of the NYPD.

This bust comes at the right time, as shootings in the city have increased as of late. According to the Brooklyn district attorney, there have been 266 shooting incidents throughout the entire city this year, with 128 taking place in Brooklyn.

Gun crime continues to be a big problem in New York City, as well as many other areas throughout the United States. Police are cracking down on this type of crime, hoping to not only keep illegal weapons off the street but to also cut back on the number of related injuries and deaths. In this case, those involved in the gun trafficking ring are going to find themselves faced with the court system, hoping for a chance to make up for their crime and resume a normal life in the future. A strong defense will be needed in this case in order to give the defendants a chance at doing so.
