For people that work with children, it is vital to ensure that one's actions aren't misconstrued as something that is inappropriate. A recent case involving a Brooklyn, New York, janitor shows just how important it is for adults to act appropriately around children. It also shows how potentially damaging allegations of sex crimes can be.
The janitor, who is married and has children of his own, was arrested at a middle school where he worked. The 51-year-old man is accused of raping a 17-year-old female, who is a former student of the school, in an office on the school grounds when she came to the campus to meet up with a third party on Saturday. He has been charged with sexual misconduct, sex abuse, rape, assault and unlawful imprisonment.
His 21-year-old daughter says the accusations are false. She said her father is a good man who isn't capable of doing what he is accused of doing. She says he comes right home after work and that he is with his family when he isn't working.
The accusations against this janitor are extremely serious. He has been working at the school for almost 17 or 18 years, according to his daughter. The police are still investigating and have declined to name the school.
Anyone who is facing sex crime allegations should make sure that they present a proper defense when responding to the charges. These types of crimes carry long-lasting and serious consequences. Getting answers to any questions about the charges or consequences might help a defendant make an informed decision about how to move forward in the case against them.
