Queens teaching assistant charged with sex crimes

| Mar 27, 2014 | Sex Crimes |

Any sex crime, regardless of where it occurs, is sure to be taken seriously by those involved. This is particularly true in a school setting, where many teachers and other professionals have been arrested for such crimes in the past.

According to local police, a Queens teaching assistant was arrested and accused of having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old male student.

The woman, who is the mother of a 9-year-old daughter, has been suspended from her position at Public School 9 after being arrested. According to the woman’s partner, however, the allegations are false. He said, “Right now, she’s telling me she’s innocent. She would never do that. She would never harm a person.”

After speaking with the NYPD’s special victims unit, the woman was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, criminal sex act, and rape. Police noted that the woman and the teenage student had approximately 10 sexual encounters at the student’s home.

The secret relationship was finally brought to light when the teenager told a school speech therapist that he was spending time with his girlfriend, then providing information about the teacher.

Any type of sex crime is a big deal, regardless of who is at the middle of the accusations or where it takes place. In this case, a teaching assistant is being accused of having sexual relations with a minor, which is a serious crime.

Anybody who is accused of such a crime has the opportunity to consult with a criminal law attorney to discuss their situation and learn more about their legal rights.
