STREET CRIME DEFENSE WITH NO JUDGMENT

Gun crimes continue to be a problem in New York City

| Jan 29, 2014 | Weapons Crimes |

While New York City is known for having an issue with gun crime, many other areas throughout the country are battling the same issue. Despite the best efforts of police, putting a complete end to this type of crime is next to impossible.

According to recent statistics, there have been 28 homicides in New York City through the first 26 days of the year. This is a big number, especially when you take into consideration the fact that there were only 21 during the same period of 2013.

In 2013, there were 334 homicides in NYC. Despite the fact that this is a large number, it is the lowest in the recorded history of the city. This led many to believe that things were moving in the right direction when it came to putting an end to this most violent crime.

Bill Bratton, working his first month as police commissioner, has his work cut out for him. Many are calling on him to make changes that will cut back on this type of crime.

Statistics also show that gun recoveries have dipped by 31.1 percent, with 208 guns recovered thus far in 2014. This is down from 302 during the same period last year. Gun crime remains a big issue in New York City. Police are doing their best to fight against this, but so far this year they have come up short.

When charged with this type of crime, the defendant often is considered guilty. However, this is not the case. A prosecutor must prove a defendant’s guilt in court and beyond a reasonable doubt. New York criminal defense attorneys work diligently to protect the rights of their clients.
