SERVING NEW YORK WITH INTEGRITY & COMMITMENT

New York City men use stolen credit cards on spending spree

When many people think about robbery, the first thing that comes to mind is a home invasion. While this is one form of this crime, there are many others that you need to be aware of.

For many years, credit card theft, while not as personally dangerous as robbery, can be financially devastating. Those who steal credit cards are not necessarily interested in harming anybody. Instead, they want access to the card so they are able to purchase items without using their own money. This crime is very common in many parts of the United States, including New York City.

Earlier this month, two New York City men were charged with identify theft and credit card fraud as a result of using stolen credit cards to purchase roughly $7,000 in merchandise from local Babies "R" Us and Best Buy stores.

The two men were caught when police responded to a local store to look into an alleged shoplifting incident. It was then that they spotted a vehicle that matched that of the two men. Upon returning to their vehicle and attempting to drive away, the police officer pulled the duo over.

According to police, an investigation by officers showed that the pair had used a stolen credit card to make $7,000 in purchases. Despite the fact that one man attempted to flee the scene on foot, police eventually caught him. Both men are being held in local jails.

Those who have been accused of credit card fraud need to consider all their legal options. A defendant's guilty is not proven until he or she is found guilty in a court of law. Defendants have rights that must be protected as their cases move throughout the court system.
