STREET CRIME DEFENSE WITH NO JUDGMENT

Drug dealers allegedly stole over $1 million from NYC pharmacies

| Nov 15, 2013 | Drug Charges |

There is no denying the fact that drug crimes in New York City, as well as other major cities throughout the country, is a growing problem. Despite the best efforts of police, putting a complete stop to this sort of crime is impossible.

Over the last three years, a 13-person crew of drug dealers allegedly stole more than $1 million worth of prescription drugs from local New York City pharmacies. During this time, authorities believe that the crew burglarized approximately 125 establishments.

Fortunately, officials were able to arrest these people after unlocking a web of mobile phone calls among the group. Two men led the crime spree, casing out the stores they planned to hit. In addition to stealing a variety of prescription pain killers, the group also took any cash they could get their hands on.

An officer for the New York Police Department Financial Crimes Task Force noted that the thieves could be seen on surveillance reading the labels before making a decision on which drugs to steal. To gain access to the pharmacies, the group would allegedly break through windows and doors. It is also noted that they would always drive to their destination in a luxury car.

Despite the fact that the group had a sophisticated plan in place, police were able to crack the ring using a “sophisticated analysis of cellphone information.”

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the group would sell the prescription drugs on the street, which had an estimated value of $1 million or more.

Being convicted of a drug crimeis a big deal. However, it’s important to remember that just because someone is arrested and charged with a crime does not mean they are automatically guilty. Guilt must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt in court. Experienced criminal defense attorneys work hard to ensure their clients rights are protected and that they develop a defense that will hopefully allow for a positive outcome in a case.
