SERVING NEW YORK WITH INTEGRITY & COMMITMENT

Popular DJ killed in drive by shooting

It is no surprise to most people in the United States that gun crime is a serious issue. Year in and year out, thousands of people are killed and injured due to violence related to weapons.

Although our New York City readers may not pay much attention to news out of neighboring states, this story may hit home for those who stay current with the local music scene.

Michael Onley, a popular disc jockey better known as DJ Mo, was killed on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, as a result of a drive by shooting. Making this story even sadder is the fact that Onley has been a big advocate against gun violence due to the fact that his brother was recently shot and killed.

According to police, Onley was killed in a drive by shooting that took place near a bar in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. At the time, he was escorting a friend to her car when he was struck in the head by a bullet.

Hours before being shot and killed, Onley was hosting a volunteer event in Scranton to raise money for brain cancer research. After his brother was killed last year in South Carolina, Onley did everything he could to push for an end to gun violence.

At this time, police do not have any suspects in the shooting, however, the investigation continues.

It is gun crime stories like these that make it difficult for people to understand why others are so careless with weapons. Onley was an up and coming DJ who was doing his part in helping stop gun-related violence. This was something that was important to him, and unfortunately his life was taken for no good reason. This news should show people everywhere how important it is to fight back against gun crime.
