64-year-old woman charged with drug trafficking

| Oct 30, 2013 | Drug Charges |

Despite the fact that most people realize the seriousness of drug trafficking, this crime continues to be an ongoing issue in areas throughout the U.S. Even though those who are charged are aware of the fact that trafficking is illegal, they decided to move forward with this activity nonetheless.

Regardless of where you live, there is no denying the seriousness of drug trafficking. Not only can this land those involved in jail, but it also has a negative impact on the area as a whole.

Drug trafficking arrests happen all the time in New York; however, this news story comes to our readers from the state of North Carolina. A 64-year-old woman is being held at a local detention center until her court appearance for a drug trafficking charge. The woman sold opiates to a police informant, which led to the arrest.

In the arrest warrant, police noted that the woman sold between four and 14 grams of drugs to a town police informant. North Carolina state law permits police to charge trafficking if the quantity being sold is four grams or more.

This is not the first time the woman has been in trouble with the law. In 1997, she was convicted of possession of a schedule II drug, which includes cocaine. While it appears that she stayed out of trouble for many years, the woman is now back into the legal system.

At this time, she is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail.

A drug trafficking charge like this could occur in any state throughout the country. While laws change from one state to the next, the fact that this is a serious crime remains the same regardless of location. Defense attorneys who are experienced in representing those charged with drug crimes can provide advice and options while developing a strong defense for their clients.
