SERVING NEW YORK WITH INTEGRITY & COMMITMENT

Were you accused of growing marijuana in your basement?

Marijuana laws are changing rapidly throughout the United States. In some states, certain individuals are permitted to grow their own personal supply of marijuana plants, but not in New York. Unless you're one of the 10,000-plus patients approved to use medical marijuana in our state, the drug is off-limits.

This means, if you are convicted of setting up a marijuana grow operation in your basement, you could find yourself sent to prison for a prolonged period of time.

Examples of recent marijuana grow house busts

In late May 2017, the 65-year-old superintendent of a Bronx apartment building found himself facing arrest on marijuana possession charges after police discovered his alleged grow operation.

The arrest happened following a fire at the apartment building. When firefighters entered the building, they discovered a small marijuana farm in the basement of the building. Police allege to have confiscated marijuana plants weighing approximately 10 pounds.

Fortunately, the fire did not injure any of the residents. It's unknown if the marijuana growing operations caused the fire, but authorities are continuing their investigation of the matter.

This is not the only fire at a marijuana growing operation in the Bronx. An explosion last September killed the chief of a fire battalion while he was investigating a potential gas leak. That incident resulted in the arrest of two men.

Get help with your marijuana crimes defense

Police are known to make mistakes, and just because you were close to a marijuana grow operation - and just because you may appear to be involved - does not mean that you are guilty of marijuana crimes. Indeed, every person accused of any drug crime in New York will have the ability to defend him- or herself against the charges with the assistance of a criminal defense lawyer. A lawyer will do everything in his or her power to limit the chances or severity of punishment relating to the criminal charges you're facing.
