SERVING NEW YORK WITH INTEGRITY & COMMITMENT

Cyber crime and identity theft

It does not matter if you live in New York or another state in the U.S., you know that identify theft remains a major problem.

Many years ago, before the days of the internet, identity theft did exist. However, this was not tied to cyber crime. In today's day and age, everything has changed.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has been dealing with identity theft for many years, predating the internet. Modern technology has made their job much more difficult, as thieves now have more outlets for conducting their "work."

Here is some additional information from the FBI, detailing their approach to identity theft: "We use both our criminal and cyber resources -- along with our intelligence capabilities -- to identify and stop crime groups in their early stages and to root out the many types of perpetrators, which span our investigative priorities."

Since the FBI has so much interest in catching criminals, they often cross the line in terms of watching over people and making arrests. This leads to situations in which a person is charged with identity theft, despite the fact that they did not participate in such illegal activity.

There is no denying the fact that identity theft remains a major problem in the U.S., as well as many other parts of the world. It is good to know that the FBI is doing its part in keeping the country safe. It is not so good to know that innocent people are often accused of this crime.

If a person is charged with any type of cyber crime, he or she may want to seek legal assistance to ensure that he or she gets a fair shake from the legal system.
